Mr Felicion Marko (52), is from Mwasonge village in Bukumbi Ward-Misungwi (Mwanza). He started growing vegetables in 1985.
In 2017, however, he realized he had to improve his farming techniques after hosting demonstrations by East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer and SEVIA. EWSKT and SEVIA (Seeds of Expertise for the Vegetable Sector of Africa) have developed a partnership that provides ongoing demonstrations to farmers to help them visualize the results of using quality vegetable seeds and good farming practices.
Mr Marko grows tomato, sweet pepper, cabbage, watermelon and cucumber. The demo treatments that made him realize he needed to update his techniques were application of fertilizer in sweet pepper and trellising of tomatoes.
Currently he has planted tomatoes using a better field layout, fertilizer application and trellising, all techniques according to the SEVIA way.
"I am a happy farmer", he says.
